Why is breakfast so important?
If you usually skip breakfast, eating breakfast might seem to add extra calories to your morning and stifle your weight loss goals. However, a recent study by Columbia University has found that skipping breakfast is linked to heart disease, strokes, high blood pressure, blood glucose levels, obesity and reduced insulin sensitivity. This is why those who skip breakfasts very regularly crave high sugar foods early on in the day and why multiple cups of coffee are the usual order of the day to boost their low energy levels.
The researchers also found that what time you eat can also have an effect on your health, including eating late at night. Late-eaters also had a greater risk of poor cardiometabolic health, which is directly linked to obesity. This is just another reason to not only watch what you’re eating, but also watch when you’re eating too!
Sitting down to a big bowl of Coco-Pops in the morning is not going to contribute to a healthy diet, but eating good food first time definitely will see that you’re healthier in the long-run. Some healthy breakfast options include porridge, bran cereal, muesli and scrambled eggs on wholemeal toast.
